KUCHING: The Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) continues its efforts to engage with the local community, particularly young people, to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and prohibited substances.

Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also the chairman of Pemadam Sarawak, said the initiative is being carried out during Ramadan through the ‘Pemadam Care For You – Jelajah Bubur Lambuk’ programme.

“The purpose of this programme is to ensure that the message conveyed through the distribution of bubur lambuk helps raise awareness among the local community about the dangers of drug abuse and banned substances,” he said.

“Therefore, Pemadam Sarawak is actively engaging with the local community, especially young people, under the slogan ‘Stay Away From Drugs, Live a Meaningful Life’.

“Through the messages embedded in this programme, this important reminder can be passed on to children through their parents and the general public during iftar.”

He made these remarks during the bubur lambuk distribution event for the programme and the handover of aid for the underprivileged (asnaf) in Asajaya District at Masjid An Najah, Asajaya, on Tuesday.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Asajaya assemblyman, expressed hope that the programme would serve as a reminder and encouragement for the community to use the fasting month as an opportunity to abandon negative behaviours, including social issues such as drug abuse.

At the event, he announced that 500 packs of bubur lambuk and dates were distributed to the local community in Asajaya.

“We will also be providing hari raya aid to the asnaf community in Asajaya,” he said.

“This time, we will be giving assistance to 243 recipients to help ease their burden as they prepare to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which is just around the corner.”
