KUCHING: The Sarawak government is implementing the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) to create mutual benefits between traders and consumers, especially in addressing economic challenges during festive seasons.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said SHMMP is being implemented as a measure to control the prices of goods to prevent consumers from being burdened by high costs.
“We want everyone to benefit during the festive season, ensuring a win-win situation for all – whether for traders, consumers, or buyers. This is what we aim for during festive times.
“I hope all parties will comply with the regulations set by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) for the collective good.”
Sharifah Hasidah, who is also the Samariang assemblywoman, reminded supermarket traders to clearly display the prices of goods to ensure price transparency and prevent consumers from feeling deceived.
“We hope supermarket traders will display prices in pink,” she added.
Sharifah Hasidah clarified that the supply of goods in Sarawak remains stable, and the authorities will continue to monitor the situation to ensure no supply shortages.
Additionally, she encouraged the public to take advantage of the Jualan Rahmah programme, which offers discounts of 10-30 per cent on weekends, especially on Saturdays and Sundays.
The programme is conducted in 80 State Assembly (DUN) constituencies across Sarawak, with 164 programmes held monthly, providing opportunities for the public to purchase goods at lower prices.
