SEBUYAU: The electricity tariff increase announced by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) does not apply to Sarawak, says Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

He stated that the supply of electricity and water in Sarawak falls under the jurisdiction of the Sarawak government.

He added that the Sarawak government has no plans to raise the existing tariffs in the state at this time.

“However, we may observe how they impose the new tariffs, and perhaps we can learn from what they are doing, but it doesn’t concern us directly.

“At this point, there are no changes because, as I mentioned earlier, the tariff announced by TNB is only for Peninsular Malaysia,” he was quoted as saying in a TVS report today (Mar 31).

In January this year, TNB announced that the Sarawak Government had approved a 14.2 percent increase in the basic tariff for the period from 2025 to 2027.

However, the government will maintain the actual electricity tariff rates for industries and households for the first half of 2025, with no changes to the rates imposed.

A further tariff review will be conducted in July 2025.
