KUCHING: The highly anticipated Gawai Tematu Carnival 2025 and the 10th edition of Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu will be held on June 27 and 28 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Consumers’ Recreation Club and Kampung Tematu.
This year’s event, themed ‘Jak Ndi Otin, Samah To Kayak Adat Bidoyoh’ (‘We Must Unite in Preserving the Bidayuh Traditions with One Heart’), promises to be a vibrant celebration of Bidayuh culture and traditions.
Organising chairman John Pata James Jumin said the carnival will feature several thrilling competitions, including the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2025, Bitanding Sindok Gawea Tematu 2025, and Bitanding Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2025, where participants will showcase the best of Bidayuh heritage and compete for generous prizes.
“For the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2025, the champion will take home RM3,000, while the runner-up will receive RM2,000.
“The third-place winner will be awarded RM1,800, and a consolation prize of RM500 will be given to the remaining participants.
“In the Bitanding Sindok Gawea Tematu 2025, the champion will receive RM2,000, the runner-up will get RM1,800, and the third-place winner will receive RM1,500.
“Consolation prizes of RM500 will also be awarded.
“The Bitanding Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu 2025 will offer a smaller prize pool, with the champion receiving RM500, the runner-up RM400, and the third-place winner RM300.
“A consolation prize of RM200 will be available for other participants,” he said in his recent statement.
He added that winners of all categories will also receive a sash, crown, trophy, certificate and hamper, with prizes varying by competition.
“Beyond the competitions, attendees can look forward to a wide range of activities, including exhibitions by government agencies and NGOs, cultural performances, and food stalls offering delicious local delicacies,” he said.
