MIRI: The successful repair and upgrading of Surau Hidayatullah and Surau Darul Mukmin here have brought much-needed improvements to local places of worship and community spaces.

Funded through the P219 People’s Friendly Project and overseen by Chiew Choon Man, Miri Member of Parliament (MP), these initiatives were aimed at improving the places of worship to ensure they are in excellent condition for religious and community activities.

Surau Hidayatullah, which had long faced roof leaks that disrupted activities, especially during the rainy season, benefited from upgrades that included fixing the roof, replacing downpipes, repairing the ceiling, and improving the drainage system for better safety and comfort.

Surau Darul Mukmin, located in Kampung Riam Jaya, also underwent significant improvements with an allocation of RM34,000 under the 2024 People’s Friendly Project.

The renovation works, completed in March, included purchasing 100 new chairs and tables, constructing a roof awning for the car park, installing walkway tiles, converting a bathroom into a men’s toilet, and building a new toilet pit and septic tank.

“These places of worship will continue to serve as spaces for spiritual growth, unity and community development,” Chiew said.

“As the MP for Miri, I remain committed to ensuring that all places of worship, regardless of race or religion, receive the support they need.”

In line with the MADANI principles, which emphasise respect, well-being and comprehensive development, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting places of worship throughout the Miri constituency, believing that well-maintained places of worship will foster greater harmony and prosperity within the community.
