BINTULU: The Greens Match Play Golf Challenge Trophy tournament is making a comeback, scheduled to take place from April 12 to 27, featuring 12 teams comprising 132 golfers competing over three weeks.

This second edition of the tournament will provide a platform for local and regional golfers to showcase their game strategies, strong sportsmanship, and team spirit – further strengthening Bintulu’s position as a top golf sports destination in Sarawak.

Tanjong Batu state assemblyman (ADUN), Johnny Pang Leong Ming, welcomed the return of the tournament.

He stated that the event not only helps to foster interest in golf among Bintulu residents but also serves as an important avenue for building community bonds through sports.

“I fully support the second edition of this tournament.

“It is an excellent platform to strengthen camaraderie and nurture noble values such as discipline, patience and teamwork among participants,” he said at the tournament’s press conference on Wednesday.

The tournament once again receives strong backing from Greens Hotel and Suites Bintulu, acting as the main sponsor for the second consecutive year.

Continued support from the hotel has played a crucial role in the success of the event while contributing to the growth of the local golfing community.

At the same time, Pang, who is also President of the Bintulu Golf Club (KGB), shared that KGB is moving forward with plans to upgrade its infrastructure, including the construction of a new clubhouse and a modern driving range.

According to him, this project is being realised through close collaboration with the Sarawak GPS government in efforts to enhance high-standard sports facilities for the benefit of members and visitors of the club.

Pang also extended his best wishes to all competing teams and called on every participant to perform their best, uphold sportsmanship, and respect one another throughout the tournament.
