KUCHING: Open University Malaysia (OUM) continues its mission to plant 2,500 trees in conjunction with its 25th anniversary celebration this year.
In collaboration with the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme titled ‘Save Our Earth’, was held at the Sabal Forest Reserve in Simunjan.
A total of 120 participants comprising students, alumni, tutors, OUM staff in Kuching, and members of the local community took part in the activity, which involved planting 500 forest tree saplings today (Apr 12).
OUM president and vice chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang said the programme is an initiative by OUM to protect and preserve the environment, while also supporting the government’s campaign to plant one million trees by 2025.
“OUM is also targeting the planting of 2,500 trees in celebration of its 25th anniversary, which will be held in August this year.
“Since 2012, OUM has actively conducted CSR programmes focusing on environmental sustainability, community development, and education, aiming to benefit society as a whole,” he said in a statement issued by OUM today (April 12).
