KUCHING: It was not your typical football morning at Axis Kids Academy. With a blend of tradition and sports, young footballers took to the field wearing Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung, paired with football boots as part of the academy’s first-ever Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri celebration.

The event brought together more than just players — it welcomed parents onto the field for a special Aidilfitri edition of the academy’s regular training session.

Fathers joined in for a friendly “walking football” match, creating wholesome moments that showcased both sporting spirit and strong family bonds.

“This was the first time we had done something like this, and seeing the kids in their traditional outfits playing football was a joyful sight,” said head coach Nizam Mahmud.

“It was more than a celebration — it was about connection,” he added.

It also served as a way to appreciate the trainees’ efforts throughout the year.

Beyond the field, the celebration continued with a short video presentation highlighting the academy’s journey, a group photo session, duit raya distribution, and a festive meal shared among trainees, parents, and coaches.

Axis Kids Academy was established to develope young football talent from the grassroots level in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.

With over 150 trainees aged 5 to 17, both boys and girls to date — the academy also extends a welcoming hand towards children with mild autism, ensuring equal opportunities for all to grow through sports.

Training is led by a team of 17 qualified coaches who are committed to nurturing not just athletic skill, but character and teamwork. The Aidilfitri celebration served.
