777 arrested for drug offences in Brunei as meth seizures skyrocket

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A total of 777 people have been arrested in Brunei in 2024 for drug-related offences compared to 711 individuals in 2023, Brunei’s Narcotic Control Bureau statistics revealed, reported Xinhua.

In total, over 40,000 grams of methamphetamine was confiscated in 2024 compared to more than 4,000 grams in 2023. Methamphetamine was the most commonly seized drug. Other drugs confiscated by the bureau were erimin 5, ecstacy, cannabis, and ketamine.

Unemployed people dominated the largest group of those arrested with 393 people in 2024, followed by 186 private sector employees, 166 self-employed individuals, 25 public servants and seven students. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
