KABONG: The government remains committed to strengthening national food security especially through the development of the fisheries sector.
Kabong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Chee Kadir noted that the fisheries sector is one of the main pillars of food supply in Malaysia, and Sarawak in particular.

“The government is constantly working to ensure that food security from the fisheries sector remains stable. Hence, continuous efforts will be carried out by the government to ensure the country’s fishery yields are sufficient and able to meet the needs of the people,” he said during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK) Kabong on Tuesday (April 15).
Additionally, Mohd Chee also expressed appreciation to PNK Kabong for successfully driving productive fishing activities, achieving annual revenues exceeding RM100,000 — demonstrating the sector’s significant potential for sustainable development.
He also encouraged bodies such as Kumpulan Belia Nelayan (KUBENA) and Kumpulan Wanita Nelayan
(KUNITA) to intensify the implementation of various programmes involving community members, thereby strengthening cooperation networks and local socio-economic development.
Towards supporting the local initiatives, he approved an allocation of RM8,000 for the purchase of a fiberglass boat mold for use by the Kabong Wharf Gang Association at their boat-building workshop.
