MUKAH: The Kaul Mukah Run (KMR) 2025, the curtain-raiser event for the Kaul Mukah 2025 festival, received an encouraging response from the public.

According to Balingian assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, the event attracted participants not only from Mukah but also from across Sarawak.

“Compared to previous years, participation has increased significantly this time, indicating that the event is gaining more public attention.

“We hope that next year, we will receive participants from other countries as well, as we want Kaul Mukah to be more widely recognised,” he said.

He made the remarks when speaking to reporters after officiating at the symbolic flag-off ceremony for KMR 2025 at the Kaul Festival Grounds yesterday.

Yakub, who is also Mukah Melanau Association (PMM) President, added that the event plays an important role in boosting both the tourism and economic sectors here.

He noted that not only KMR, but also other events, sales stalls, community booths and the Mukah Kitchen contribute to revitalising these sectors.

“When Kaul Mukah is held, we certainly aim to attract more visitors.

“In addition to enhancing tourism and the local economy, the festival also serves to introduce the unique culture of Mukah to outsiders.

“This will help showcase Mukah’s rich cultural heritage,” he added.

Also present at the event were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, Mukah Division Resident Datuk Kueh Lei Poh, and Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip.

Earlier, a total of 734 participants took part in KMR 2025, which included both competitive runs and a Fun Walk.

The running events were divided into two categories, five and 10 kilometres, while the Fun Walk covered a distance of three kilometres.
