KUCHING: Kuching South City Council Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, received a courtesy call from the executive vice governor of Henan Province, Sun Shougang, today in an effort to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Kuching South and Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province in China.
The meeting is a follow-up to the signing of the Letter of Intent in April 2024 to establish Friendship City relations between the two cities.
Both parties reiterated their mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, culture, tourism and youth development.
Wee described the meeting as an important step towards establishing a practical and people-oriented cooperation.

“We are honoured to deepen our friendship with Zhengzhou, and we see great promise in collaborative efforts that will drive mutual growth, cultural understanding, and inclusive opportunities for our citizens,” he said.
Among the topics discussed were the organisation of joint economic forums, cultural exchange programmes, youth and educational linkages, as well as cooperation in sustainable and smart city development.
This courtesy visit also reflects South Kuching’s continued efforts to strengthen international relations and establish the city as a regional hub for strategic partnerships.
“This meeting further strengthens the mutual commitment to advancing bilateral relations and exploring initiatives that benefit both communities,” added Wee.
Both parties agreed to continue to work closely towards formalising and expanding cooperation, with the long-term goal of forging a strategic relationship based on mutual respect and shared aspirations.
