SARATOK: The atmosphere at this year’s Regatta Kalaka, set to be held from July 11-13, is expected to be more special with the anticipated presence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Saratok District Officer, Muhammad Dino Amid, who is also the chairman of the Regatta Kalaka Pesta Saratok 2025 main organising committee, said the Premier’s willingness to visit Saratok and witness the Regatta Kalaka’s ‘Raja Sungai’ competition is highly welcomed.
“I believe this will be his first time witnessing the excitement of Regatta Kalaka in person, especially the contest for the Raja Sungai title on 13 July.
“Undoubtedly, this iconic event in Saratok District will be even more special this year.
“As such, we as the organisers warmly invite both local residents and visitors to join the Premier of Sarawak in attending Regatta Kalaka from July 11 to 13,” he told Suara Sarawak after chairing the main organising committee meeting in Saratok yesterday.
He explained that the original dates, July 4 to 6, had to be changed to July 11 to 13 due to unavoidable circumstances.
“However, I believe this gives the organisers and participants more time to prepare.
“As in previous years, the turnout for the regatta festival has been oveewhelming.
“I hope this year will be no different. Come in large numbers to Saratok, let’s gather and make the Regatta Kalaka Pesta Saratok 2025 a lively one. Many programmes have already been lined up,” he added.
According to Dino, over 20 activities and events will take place throughout the festival.
“Our objectives are to uplift the community’s socio-economic status through festive activities, to promote Saratok as a popular venue for water sports, and to strengthen ties between leaders and the community,” he said.
The organisers, he stressed, are committed to ensuring the regatta runs smoothly.
“This is our opportunity to showcase the uniqueness of Saratok and its regatta to a broader audience,” he said.
He added that further announcements on the event lineup will be made from time to time via local media and social media platforms.
This year, Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, serves as the patron of the Regatta Kalaka Pesta Saratok 2025 main organising committee.
