MUKAH: The Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA) won the Plate title at the Mukah Rugby Carnival 2025, held recently at Politeknik Mukah, here.
In the finals, MDRA edged out the Sibu Rugby Association (SRA) 14-12 to secure the win.
Their path to glory included a solid 12-7 win over KRFC Blackcatz and a dominant 38-0 victory against UiTM Q6, although they faced a tough 0-24 defeat at the hands of Bintulu RFA.
Despite the setback, they advanced to the quarterfinals, where they cruised to a 19-0 win over host Mukah.
The semifinal was a nail-biting 5-5 draw, but MDRA lost on the “who try first” rule.
Ultimately, they rose to the occasion in the final, claiming a hard-fought 14-12 victory over Sibu RA to seize the Final Plate.
MDRA vice-president Faqrul Hafiz Abu Bakar gave a special shout out to the players, coaches, and supporters whose commitment and passion helped bring home the title.
“Congratulations to the Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA) for emerging as the Plate Champions at the Mukah Rugby Carnival 2025 held at Politeknik Mukah on May 10 and 11!
“A huge thank you to all the players, coaches, and supporters who made this victory possible. Your dedication and passion have truly paid off!” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today (May 14).
The Final Plate win adds another feather in the cap for MDRA, highlighting rugby’s growth in the Miri division.
