SARIKEI: The newly completed Sarawak Government Administrative Centre for the Sarikei Division, built at a cost of RM147,250,000, will house approximately 500 civil servants from various state government departments and agencies.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki said ten key government departments and agencies will operate from the new centre.
They are the Sarikei Resident’s Office, Sarikei District Office, Sarikei Division Land and Survey Department, Sarikei Division Public Works Department, Sarikei Urban Water Supply Department, Sarikei Forest Regional Office, Sarikei Division Welfare Department, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Sarikei Division, and the Sarawak Service Centre for Sarikei Division.
“By placing these departments under one roof, essential services can be delivered to the public more conveniently, efficiently and quickly.
“The construction of this new administrative centre not only marks a milestone in Sarikei’s development, but also plays a key role in supporting the rapid growth of the division,” he said during the launch officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
As the food basket of Sarawak, Sarikei holds vast potential in the agro-tourism and food industry sectors, and Abu Bakar noted that efficient administrative infrastructure is crucial to supporting such growth.
He highlighted that the Sarawak Service Centre and Sarawak Government Counter, located on the ground floor of the centre, operate based on digital and “Whole-of-Government” service concepts.
The public can access a wide range of services at the centre, such as bill and tax payments (including land and water tax), licence and permit applications, status checks and updates on government applications, registration for small businesses and local entrepreneurs, applications for welfare and social assistance, as well as government agency advisory and information services.
“This integrated approach not only saves time and resources but also strengthens public service delivery in line with the concept of ‘One-Stop Customer-Centric Service Delivery,’ which prioritises efficiency and convenience for the people.
“I am confident this centre will serve as a key catalyst for inclusive development in Sarikei, aligned with our aspirations to enhance public service systems that are efficient, sustainable and impactful,” he added.
In terms of accessibility, he said the centre is strategically located near the new commercial area, sports stadium, schools, residential areas, a hospital, and other key amenities.
The building was designed with modern, eco-friendly features and incorporates smart technology in compliance with Green Building Index (GBI) standards.
On administrative building projects across Sarawak, he said the state government has approved 46 projects to date, five of which involve the construction of Integrated Administrative Centres (IAC) at the divisional level.
So far, 16 new administrative buildings have been completed in various districts and sub-districts, including IAC Sarikei and IAC Serian.
Meanwhile, seven other projects are in various stages of implementation, such as IAC Bintulu, IAC Limbang, and IAC Lawas.
The remaining 23 projects are currently in the planning stage.
