KUCHING: The successful negotiation and implementation of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) commitments in the field of education marks a significant milestone in federal-state collaboration, with Sarawak leading the way, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She praised the Sarawak government for being the first to work closely with the Federal Government in ensuring that MA63 provisions, particularly in education, are not only recognised but translated into meaningful outcomes on the ground.

“I sincerely thank Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari for his unwavering commitment and strong collaboration with the Madani government. His leadership stands out; others may lead, but none quite like Sarawak’s Premier,” she said.

Fadhlina was speaking at the Malam Berambeh Segulai Sejalai dinner held in conjunction with the 54th National Teacher’s Day 2025 celebration at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Thursday (May 15).

She emphasised that the Federal Education Ministry remains committed to working alongside the Sarawak government to improve education standards, adding that the cooperation shown by Sarawak sets a national benchmark.

“This is the kind of dedication we hope to see across the board. I see that determination in our Sarawak counterparts, and together, we will continue to pursue our shared educational goals,” she said.

This year’s National Teacher’s Day marks the first time in 15 years that the event is being hosted in Sarawak.

Fadhlina extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Sarawak government and the Sarawak Education Department for their instrumental roles in organising the celebration.

“From the very start yesterday, the energy and atmosphere have been truly extraordinary. Next year’s host will face a tough challenge, as Sarawak has set a very high and festive benchmark,” she added.

Fadhlina also touched on the importance of ongoing education reforms and called on teachers to be at the forefront of this transformation, in line with this year’s theme, Teachers as Drivers of Education Reform.

“This theme is not mere rhetoric. It reflects our current efforts to elevate the teaching profession and improve the quality of national education. Teachers are central to this mission,” she stressed.
