THE Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has approved a motion to reappoint Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim to the Dewan Negara for a second term.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who tabled the motion, said Ahmad’s reappointment reflects his continued commitment and outstanding service to the people of Sarawak through public service, non-governmental organisations, and charitable initiatives.
“Despite his heavy public duties, Datuk Ahmad has consistently demonstrated admirable dedication in serving the community. His presence in the Dewan Negara will help further Sarawak’s interests and safeguard its constitutional rights,” Awang Tengah told the august House today.
He noted that Ahmad had served with distinction during his first term in the Senate and remains a respected figure with a strong background in municipal administration and grassroots engagement.

Ahmad was formerly deputy chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) from 2016 to 2023. During his tenure, he chaired several key standing committees, including Public Health, Environment and Municipal Services; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and General Purposes and Community Development.
“He also played a central role in organising flagship community events such as the MPP Bazaar Ramadan, Padawan Raft Safari, Pesta Telaga Air, Borneo Highlands Nature Challenge, and the Padawan International 4×4 Challenge in 2017,” Awang Tengah added.
A lifelong advocate for youth development, Ahmad has been a life member of Pertubuhan Belia Kebangsaan Bersatu Sarawak (Saberkas) since 2006.
He served as branch chairman for Saberkas Batu Kawa from 2012 to 2016 and is currently serving his third term as deputy chairman of Saberkas Batu Kitang (until 2026).
He has also twice been elected to the Saberkas Sarawak supreme council and currently serves as its internal auditor.
In addition to his community and political roles, Ahmad supports youth sports, serving as patron of the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) and Kelab Muay Thai Kenyalang since 2023.
Ahmad was first appointed to the Dewan Negara on July 22, 2022, and officially took his oath of office on August 22 the same year.
Born on Aug 14, 1969, at Kanowit Hospital, Ahmad began his early education at St. Teresa Primary School in Serian before moving to St. Joseph’s Primary and Secondary Schools in Kuching.
He pursued further studies at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Canada, and later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business (Finance) from the University of San Francisco, California, in 1995.
Upon returning to Malaysia, he was actively involved in community work while also building a professional career in banking and business management. His eventual foray into politics marked a natural progression in his public service journey.
Ahmad has been a member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since 1996. He served as information chief of the Kampung Paya Mebi Branch from 2009 to 2016 and has held the position of branch chairman for PBB Batu Kawa since 2009. He is currently serving his term until 2027.
His new three-year term in the Dewan Negara takes effect from Jul 22, 2025.
