SARAWAKIANS travelling home for the Gawai Dayak celebration can look forward to increased flight availability; as the Ministry of Transport continues to work closely with its federal counterparts and airlines to meet festive travel demand.
According to the Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, his ministry has ensured a steady flow of flights during major holidays, including the recent Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

“For Chinese New Year, 98 additional flights were operated by Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), AirAsia, and Batik Air, connecting Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru to various destinations in Sarawak.
“Likewise, for Hari Raya, MAG and AirAsia added 46 extra flights,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly today (May 26).
Lee announced that 28 additional flights have been arranged to accommodate Gawai travellers.
AirAsia has scheduled 13 extra flights from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Bharu, and Johor Bahru, while Malaysia Airlines and FireFly will operate 15 additional flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Sibu, and Miri.
He said that while the airlines offered additional flights and maintained reasonable fares, he urged passengers to plan early.
“My ministry encourages all travellers to plan their journeys and make advance bookings.
“This proactive approach can minimise travel disruptions and ensure more people can reunite with their families during the Gawai festivities,” he said.
