KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) 2025/2027 leadership race heats up with 12 candidates contesting ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The FAS AGM, scheduled for this Saturday, will see 12 candidates vying for six key leadership positions within the governing body.

For the President’s post, two candidates will face off: Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, who is also the Chairman of Kuching City FC, and Dr Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, a former Deputy President of the Samarahan Division Football Association (PBBS) from 2007 to 2009.

Their candidacies were confirmed following the recent announcement by the incumbent, Abang Zulkarnain Abang Abdul Rahman, that he would not be defending his position after serving one term (2023/2024).

Meanwhile, the Deputy President’s position will also be contested by two individuals: the incumbent, Abang Suhordie Abang Zaini, and Datuk Hamzah Brahim.

As for the Vice-President posts, eight candidates have confirmed their intenton to contest for the four available slots in FAS leadership for the upcoming term.

Three of them are current office bearers: Nicol Agoi, Khairulddin Qalam Daud, and Khairul Anuar Adeni.

The other five contenders are Phillip Jabu, Sophie Shariee, Mohd Saif Jubaidi, MD Haical Abdullah and Dr Kamurudin Ahmed Junaidi.

Undoubtedly, the contest for all six key positions in FAS this weekend is expected to draw significant attention from observers and football stakeholders across Sarawak, especially given the credibility and track record each candidate brings from their involvement in football at various levels.

Ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the delegates representing FAS affiliates from all divisions.

The power of the vote is theirs, and the chosen leaders for FAS 2025/2027 will be revealed soon.
