KUCHING: Over 1,400 people joined Environmental Ride 2025 and Sarawak’s 10,000 Informative Steps during the Kuching Car-Free Morning Gawai Dayak Edition at Padang Merdeka here today.
The event, organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) in collaboration with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Sarawak Branch, not only raised awareness about protecting and conserving the environment but also helped promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle while fostering unity among the local community.
Participants from various walks of life expressed their satisfaction with the event, which was held in conjunction with the Gawai edition this time.
In line with this, Sarawak Tribune had the opportunity to interview several members of the public who participated in the programme.

ZAMRI SAJALI, 51
Pensioner
“Today’s Car-Free Morning programme is very good because it helps strengthen community ties through shared recreational activities. In fact, I myself often join this programme every month, cycling together with friends. This programme also encourages the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle.”

MOHD TAUFIK, 24
Part-time dancer
“What makes today’s Car-Free Morning special is that it’s held in conjunction with the Gawai edition, which also promotes Sarawak’s culture. So I took this opportunity to wear the traditional Bidayuh attire together with my friends. While we exercise, we also showcase the richness of Sarawak’s traditional clothing and heritage.”

MALINI IDRIS, 45
Shop Assistant
“I’m very happy to see the lively crowd joining in and enlivening the programme this morning. In fact, I wore a blouse with a ‘pua kumbu’ motif for this Gawai edition and took up the challenge of the 10,000-step programme organised today – and I managed to exceed the target by reaching 12,000 steps!”

KASUMA HASSIM, 60
Pensioner
“Programmes like this are very worthwhile because not only can we exercise, but we also get to meet old friends. Today, I managed to reach 11,555 steps to support this commendable initiative.”
