KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi paid a solemn visit to the official residence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Tun Openg this morning, offering condolences following the passing of the Premier’s wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

Zahid arrived at 9 am and was received by the Premier’s Chief Political Secretary Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, in a sombre atmosphere filled with grief and sympathy shared by close family members, friends, and dignitaries.

His presence marked one of the earliest condolences from a national leader and underscored the federal government’s solidarity with Sarawak during this period of mourning.

In a statement issued earlier, Zahid conveyed his heartfelt condolences, describing the late Puan Sri as more than just the spouse of a national leader.

“The late Puan Sri was more than just a wife to a national leader; she was a devoted life partner, a steadfast companion through all seasons, and a key pillar of support throughout the Premier’s leadership journey.

“The passing of someone so cherished, who stood as the Premier’s main source of strength in both joy and hardship, is an irreplaceable loss,” he said.

He paid tribute to her character and lifetime of contributions, noting her longstanding dedication to charitable causes, particularly in empowering women and uplifting grassroots communities.

“She was someone of noble character; gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply involved in welfare and community development. Her tireless work has left a lasting legacy that will be remembered by many,” he added.

Speaking at the residence, Zahid said his visit was to personally extend condolences on behalf of the Federal Government and to demonstrate national unity in the face of personal grief.

Also present to pay their last respects were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud; Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; and state dignitaries, senior government officials, and family members.

According to an official statement from the Premier’s Office, a funeral prayer service will be held at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya, Kuching, from 10 am to 12 pm.

The late Puan Sri will then be laid to rest at the Semariang Islamic Cemetery.
