SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here today granted police bail to a 44-year-old woman, the spouse of a married couple, suspected of masterminding a major drug trafficking syndicate in Sibu.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern approved the release following a request by the investigating officer, Inspector Aminur Rizwan Saiful Bahari.

The suspect, who is represented by legal counsel Darren Ling, had earlier been remanded for four days beginning Jun 20. Her remand order expired today.

Meanwhile, her 52-year-old husband remains in custody under a seven-day remand order and is scheduled to be brought to court again this Thursday (Jun 26).

According to earlier reports, the couple’s arrest followed a series of raids conducted by the Sibu District Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) on Jun 12 and 13. The operations were carried out near a shop in Pusat Pedada and at two terrace houses in Lorong Permai Jaya.

The raids led to the seizure of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of RM532,934.40. The narcotics haul included 7,086.7 grams of syabu, 2,078.9 grams of ketamine, and 2,022.6 grams of Erimin 5 pills.

Police also confiscated RM5,157,450 in cash, four gold bars, two gold chains, two Rolex watches, and three vehicles, bringing the total value of the seized drugs and assets to RM8,530,384.40.

Investigators believe the couple are the main operators of a drug syndicate that has been active in Sibu since 2015. The case remains under investigation.
