KABONG (Saratok): Seventy-six individuals of various nationalities, including children, were arrested in ‘Ops Sapu’ immigration raids held around town on Tuesday (Jun 24).
The Sarawak Immigration Department’s Special Task Force (PTK) and Sarikei Immigration Enforcement Unit stormed two locations suspected of harbouring undocumented foreign workers.
Out of 81 individuals inspected, 76 foreigners were taken into custody for various immigration offences.
The detainees are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the relevant regulations.
The department said such operation is part of ongoing efforts to stamp out illegal immigration and ensure all foreign nationals comply with national laws.
Employers and business owners are again reminded not to take immigration laws lightly and to ensure full compliance.
Those found flouting the law by knowingly hiring or sheltering undocumented individuals will face stern action, as part of efforts to uphold public order and the rule of law, especially in Sarawak.
