MIRI: A late-night traffic operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ saw police confiscate 15 modified motorcycles and issue 55 summonses across the city.
The five-hour operation, held from 10:00 pm last night (June 28) until 3:00 am today, targeted known gathering points at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Marina Utama and Jalan Miri-Bypass.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said such operation aimed to disrupt street hooliganism and send a strong message to reckless motorcyclists who continue to flout traffic laws.
“Fifteen motorcycles were confiscated under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further inspection after they were found heavily modified from their original factory condition.
“Overall, the team had inspected a total of 17 vehicles and 15 individuals, which resulted in the issuance of 55 summonses for various traffic offences,” he said.
Farhan stated that similar operations will continue from time to time.
Road users – particularly young motorcyclists – are reminded to ride responsibly and avoid becoming a nuisance or danger to others.
“Modifying motorcycles, racing on public roads, and loitering in large groups at roadsides create unnecessary traffic congestion and loud disturbances that disrupt public peace.
“These actions will not be tolerated,” he said.
He added that such irresponsible behaviour could not only result in legal consequences but also pose serious risks to themselves and other motorists.
