KUCHING: In a celebration of wellness, unity and sustainability, the Brahma Kumaris Foundation (BKF) Kuching Branch will host the 11th United Nations International Day of Yoga today (Saturday) at the Indian Association Kuching’s multi-purpose hall.

To run from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, the event will be held under the global theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.

It aims to raise awareness of yoga’s powerful impact on physical, mental and spiritual well-being, while also highlighting its contribution to a more sustainable and harmonious world.

“Yoga is increasingly recognised not merely as a form of exercise, but as a holistic discipline. Its benefits span improved physical strength, flexibility and fitness, to stress reduction, enhanced emotional stability and deeper self-awareness.

“BKF Kuching emphasises that the ancient practice also fosters global harmony by bringing together people from all walks of life and encouraging mindful, eco-friendly living,” BKF Kuching Branch said in a statement.

“Yoga connects individuals to themselves and to one another. It’s a lifestyle that supports both personal health and collective well-being.”

It added that to enrich the participants’ experience, this year’s celebration would feature a range of engaging activities.

Attendees can also visit exhibition booths offering basic health screenings, meditation sessions and “happy index” tests.

Cultural performances will also add colour to the event, with wushu demonstrations by Elite Wushu Club Kuching and a gymnastics performance by the Persatuan Gimnastik Amatur Negeri Sarawak.

As part of its eco-conscious approach, the organisers will provide water dispensers and encourage participants to bring their own reusable water bottles.

BKF Kuching is calling on the public, community organisations and local stakeholders to support the event and help cultivate yoga as a meaningful annual tradition in Sarawak.

For more information or enquiries, the public can contact assistant manager Lily at 013-8015959 or Christina at 014-6995668.
