KUCHING: Sarawak’s next generation of BMX cycling talent made a strong statement at the National BMX Championships held over the weekend in Nilai, coming home with two national titles and a slew of podium finishes.

In a statement issued by the Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA), it was noted that riders from Sarawak secured two national titles, five podium finishes, and valuable racing experience across multiple age categories.
“Luthfil Hasief Freddie (Boys 15) and Airis Nabihah Rais (Girls 11–12) clinched national titles with commanding performances, leading from the gate and holding their form all the way to the finish.
“Sarawak also secured several podium finishes, with Wan Muhammad Zulfahmi Wan Ridzauddin taking silver in the Boys 12 category.
“Bronze medals went to Aimy Nazurah Rais in Women Youth 15–16 and Nur Aleeya Qaleesya Zickry Azizan in Girls 9–10. Just outside the medals were Sharifah Nur Aina Marissa Wan Ridzauddin (4th, Women Youth 15–16) and Ahmad Zharif Ahza Ahmad Jumry (4th, Boys 11), both showing strong potential in their age groups,” it said.
In the finals lineup, Ahmad Zafry Akhtar Ahmad Jumry placed 7th in Boys 14, while Danial Rayyan Abdullah Zaiwisman finished 8th in Boys 15.
SCA added that these riders demonstrated promising speed and positioning throughout the qualifying rounds.
The statement also noted that these results add to what has already been a strong year for Sarawak cycling, following impressive performances at the National Track and Road Championships earlier this year.
President of SCA, Irawan Sudarsono, highlighted that there is more to build on and that the association will continue developing riders through structured training and competition exposure.
“We’re pleased to see steady progress in BMX. The results reflect the hard work put in by our young riders and coaches,” he said.
For the record, SCA manages the development of cycling disciplines in Sarawak — including BMX, road, track, and mountain biking and supports athlete development from grassroots to elite level through coaching, events, and partnerships.
