MIRI: What began as a trip to gather bamboo shoots turned into a distressing ordeal for a senior woman who went missing in the undergrowth behind Everwin Pujut 7 here.
The 60-year-old was reported to have gone to look for bamboo shoots around 9 am yesterday and was unable to find her way back.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a report was lodged at around 7.45 pm the same day regarding the woman’s disappearance.
“Following the report, a search and rescue operation (SAR) was launched with assistance from the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM) and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
“The woman was successfully located at 11.20 pm that night, safe and without injuries,” he said in a statement.
The woman was given immediate treatment at the scene before being allowed to return home.
Mohd Farhan urged members of the public to immediately report any similar incidents to the Miri District Police Headquarters via 085-433700/085-433400 or to the nearest police station.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the case.
