Firefighters and park rangers to the rescue after a woman suffering severe leg cramps needed to be rescued from Lambir National Park.

MIRI: A 31-year-old woman who suffered leg cramps while hiking at Lambir National Park, was rescued by firefighters and park rangers yesterday (July 12).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 4.49pm, prompting a team from Miri station to be dispatched to the park, about 36km away.

Upon arrival, they were informed by the woman’s companions that she was unable to move due to severe leg cramps and was stranded at the 3.5km marker in the Pantu Waterfall area.

A rescue team, accompanied by three Lambir park rangers, hiked to the location with a stretcher in tow.

When they reached the woman, she had regained some mobility and was assisted back on foot to the park’s headquarters.

She later received medical attention from the emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit.

The rescue operation ended at 8.40 pm.
