KUCHING: Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, praised the long running Forum Remaja MADANI as a meaningful initiative to empower students and strengthen the education ecosystem in the state.
Sagah expressed his appreciation to Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch for successfully organising the forum since 1989.
“This forum has reached its 35th year – a testament to its continued relevance.
“It serves as an important platform to identify, nurture and develop students’ talents in communication and critical thinking,” he said in his speech at the Forum Remaja MADANI Piala Pusingan Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak 2025, held at the Balai Budaya today.
Furthermore, Sagah reaffirmed the Sarawak Government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive and progressive education policies.
He said efforts are continually being made to ensure that children across all age groups are not left behind in educational development, especially in rural and underserved communities.
“In our pursuit of a prosperous and advanced Sarawak by 2030, we aim to produce competitive human capital – grounded in strong values of religion and patriotism, and equipped with a far-sighted, critical mindset.
“These qualities must be nurtured from the school level,” he added.
He also highlighted that the state’s development blueprint, as outlined in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), emphasises sustainability, inclusivity and digitalisation.
In this regard, he noted that students must not only excel academically but also develop strong personal character and resilience to face future challenges.
“The young generation of today will be the custodians of our heritage and the voice of Sarawak on the global stage,” he said.
Sagah also shared that his ministry is actively rolling out programmes focused on talent development, digital innovation, and teacher empowerment – aligning with the mission of producing high-quality human capital and positioning education as the main driver of progress.
“In this context, the Forum Remaja MADANI is not just a competition.
“It is an integral part of our wider education ecosystem and plays a role in realising our collective vision for Sarawak – a state that is advanced not only in its economy but also in its people,” he said.
He concluded by congratulating all the students and teachers who took part, applauding their courage and commitment.
“You are our hope – not just for the future of education, but for the future of the nation,” he said.
