SARATOK: Kalaka Assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, has described the organisation of this year’s Pesta Saratok, which culminated in the Kalaka Regatta, as a resounding success.

According to him, all 21 scheduled activities ran smoothly and were filled with excitement.

“I can confidently say this year’s edition was a great success, drawing an estimated crowd of around 30,000 visitors throughout the festival,” he said.

Alhamdulillah, this sets a new benchmark now that Pesta Saratok is officially listed in the Sarawak Tourism Calendar. Next year will be even grander.”

Mohamad added that Pesta Saratok has helped open the eyes of outsiders to the unique appeal of the town known as Bandar Ikan Labang.

“It’s not just about entertainment; it’s also a platform to showcase young talent, boost the local economy, and promote our rich culture and heritage.

“Most importantly, the festival, which began in late June, has become a unifying platform for people of all races and religions. I’m confident that the wide-reaching impact of this festival is felt by everyone involved,” he added.

Mohamad extended his thanks to all parties who contributed to the event, whether directly or indirectly, especially Saratok District Officer, Muhammad Dino Amid, and the Kalaka ADUN Service Centre.

“A big thank you as well to all our sponsors. God-willing, any shortcomings will be addressed in future editions, and our intention remains clear to deliver the best possible experience,” he said.

At the closing night of the festival, Mohamad witnessed the Open Bertandak (Dancing) Competition organised by the 1828 Youth Wing of PBB Kalaka Branch, and presented prizes to the winners.

With rhythmic drumbeats and the enchanting voice of Dayang Azura accompanied by musician, Awangko Karma Pangiran Joll, the young pair from Kabong captured the judges’ hearts to clinch the championship, taking home RM500 in cash.

The runner-up was Selendang Mayang, while Gemersik Spaoh took third place.
