SONG: An elderly man was killed while four others survived after the pick-up truck they were travelling in plunged into a ravine along Mile 24, Jalan Musah Kajah last night (Jul 20).
The deceased, identified as 80-year-old Berain Sinau, was one of the passengers and was found crushed beneath the overturned vehicle.
Another passenger, a 43-year-old man, sustained injuries and was rushed to Kanowit Hospital by members of the public who came to their aid.
The remaining three individuals, including the driver aged between 44 and 61, escaped injuries.
The accident happened at around 7.50 pm when the Mitsubishi Triton carrying all five men skidded and fell into a ravine estimated to be 10 metres deep.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said firefighters from Song station, and police personnel, were deployed to the scene, which was located about 46km away via a logging road.
“Due to the terrain, a bulldozer from Green Hill Logging was used to carve a path to the crash site and assist in pulling the vehicle to a safer area.
“The team later extricated the victim’s body and handed it over to the police for further action,” he said.
The operation concluded at 12.50 am.
