KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has reaffirmed Sarawak government’s commitment to Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, while continuing to plan and implement comprehensive developments to ensure inclusive economic and social prosperity.

He said the state is actively enhancing digital economy efforts, artificial intelligence (AI), environmental sustainability and key sectors such as oil and gas, manufacturing, plantation, tourism and modern agriculture, in efforts to achieve the vision of becoming a developed region by 2030.

“In line with that, the Sarawak Government is committed to expanding access to education. Starting next year, we will provide free education for Sarawakian students at all state-owned universities, in selected fields of study.

“This initiative aims to help our students focus on their education and ease the financial burden of their families,” he said in his message in the Sarawak Day programme book.

The Premier added that the Sarawak Government will also continue to fight for the state’s eroded rights since the formation of Malaysia in 1963, under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and urged all Sarawakians to stand united with the state government to realize its hopes and aspirations.

On this year’s Sarawak Day 2025 celebration with the theme ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’, he said it reflects the commitment of both the state government and its people to strengthen close ties between the government and the multi-ethnic communities as a firm foundation for driving sustainable development toward becoming a high-income, developed region by 2030.

“We are truly grateful to be able to celebrate Sarawak Day 2025 in the city of Miri — a city built on the foundation of the oil and gas industry. Miri is also known as a fast-developing resort city and stands as a symbol of progress and multiracial harmony in this region.

“I must emphasise that Sarawak is a truly unique region, as we have long lived in harmony despite our diverse ethnicities, religions and traditions. Therefore, I hope we will continue to preserve this racial harmony,” he said.
