KUCHING: In preparation for the upcoming Borneo Games Kuching 2025, scheduled to take place from September 24 to 28, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), together with Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), have been holding tentative discussions to fine-tune its preparations for the highly anticipated sports.
The meeting was attended virtually by UKAS director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan via Zoom, UKAS deputy director Joachim Paggang Jabong, acting chief executive officer of SSC and head of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025 Secretariat, Khairul Nizam Morshidi, as well as representatives from both agencies.
The discussion focused on UKAS’ overall preparations with strategic partners, particularly in terms of publicity through social media and print platforms, to ensure wide coverage of the biennial sporting event.
During the meeting, all official representatives were updated on the preparations by various committees under the Borneo Games Kuching 2025 Secretariat, including athlete registration, official attire, accommodation, the selection of sports events, venues, key dates, and more.
This year’s edition is expected to involve around 1,500 athletes from Sarawak, Brunei Darussalam, Sabah, the Federal Territory of Labuan, and East Kalimantan.
Seven sports will be contested, including five core sports: swimming, lawn bowling, archery, badminton, and athletics.
In addition, two traditional sports—blowpipe shooting and tug of war will also be featured.
A golf event will also be held specifically for VIP guests.
All competitions will take place around the Sarawak Sports Complex, while the golf event will be played at Sarawak Golf Club.
