KUCHING: WTK Holdings Bhd has reported sharply lower log production to 47,486 cubic metres (cu m) in the April-June 2025 quarter (2Q2025), down 42,330 cu m (-47%) from 89,816 cu m in 2Q2024.
As compared to 47,735 cu m recorded in 1Q2025, the decline was merely nine per cent in the current quarter under review.
In first half 2025 (1H2025), WTK group harvested 95,221 cu m of timber, which fell by 42 per cent from 163,284 cu m in 1H2024, according to the company’s filing with Bursa Malaysia.
Last month, the group reported log production of 13,729 cu m.
Sibu-based WTK group operates eight timber concession areas, with six directly under its timber licences covering 194,000 hectares. The remaining two, spanning 207,000 hectares, are operated by the group as a contractor.
In 2024, the group recorded total log production of 324,000 cu m or monthly average of 27,000 cu m.
Besides, the group oversees some 62,000 hectares of reforestation areas under Licenses for Planted Forests, with a 60-year tenure, covering areas located at Oya-Kanowit-Katibas (Sibu Division) and Bukit Raya (Kapit Division).
WTK group, which is also into oil palm plantation business, has increased its fresh fruit bunches (FFB) output by 11 per cent to 66,363 tonnes in 2Q2025 (2Q2024:59,925 tonnes), boosted by newly acquired estates. In 1H2025, FFB production volume surged by 17 per cent to 127,690 tonnes (1H2024:109,195 tonnes). Last month, FFB output jumped by eight per cent to 66,363 tonnes (June 2024:61,327 tonnes).
On the other hand, the group registered lower production of crude palm oil (CPO) by seven per cent to 13,137 tonnes in 2Q2025 (14,125 tonnes) while palm kernel output plunged by 13 per cent to 2,622 tonnes (3,018 tonnes).
Compared to 1Q2025, the 2Q2025 CPO production rose by eight per cent while palm kernel by one per cent.
On a half-year basis, the trend was similar as CPO volume dropped by four per cent to 25,261 tonnes (2025) from 26,424 tonnes (2024) while palm kernel volume fell by seven per cent to 5,215 tonnes (5,585 tonnes).
Meanwhile, Subur Tiasa Holdings Bhd saw a 5.82 per cent drop in FFB production to 70,251 tonnes in 2Q2025 (2Q2024:74,596 tonnes) but the output in the current quarter was higher by five per cent from 66,899 tonnes in 1Q2025.
In 2Q2025, the group did not produce any logs as compared to 10,873 cu m in 2Q2024. This dragged down the group’s log output to 3,786 cu m in 1H2025 from 24,767 cu m (1H2024) or down by 84.71 per cent.
