KUCHING: Malay Car Importers and Dealers Association (Pekema) Sarawak donated stationery to the pupils of SK Abang Leman Kabong today.
A total of 602 pupils received school bags and cash delivered by Pekema president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Abang Khalid Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Marzuki.
At the same event, donations from the company were also handed over to SK Spaoh, Spaoh and SK Saint Barnabas, Debak.
Khalid,in his speech, said the handover of such school stationery was an annual event for schools in the urban and rural areas.
“This is a Pekema initiative in line with its objective to address the underprivileged and disabled children in the state,” he said.
“With this kind of help, we hope that it is able to enhance the students’ interest in learning. The value may be small but it is hoped that it will produce excellent and successful students as assets for the nation and community,” he added.
Khalid also stated, “Since 2010 until now, we have been channelling donations in various forms to those in need. They include those who are ill and disaster victims.”
He then proceeded to deliver donations of RM5,000 from Pekema and a personal donation of RM5,000 to the school (SK Abang Leman).
Khalid added that Pekema through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme over the years had presented donations to cover medical expenses as well as donations to poor patients and victims of natural disasters.
Among others, he said, these included contributions to single mothers, poor people and education.
“Throughout 2018, Pekema contributed items and cash worth about RM400,000 from January to December which were not much different from our contribution in the same period of the previous years,” he pointed out.
Also present were Pekema Sarawak deputy president Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi, its vice president Tapah Ata, SK Abang Leman Kabong headmaster Bujang Lee, Sarawak Pekema committee members and its other members.
“Just like a few years ago, even though we are facing a poor economic situation, it does not stop us (Pekema Sarawak Foundation) from extending donations and special help to those in need,” he stated.
“This is the only way we can contribute to the community and we hope to continue this kind of activity in the future,” Khalid said.
He stressed Pekema Sarawak aimed not only to spearhead the country’s automotive business arena, but also to become the association that contributed to the people the most.
