KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 110 SPM candidates from SMK Agama Matang 2 benefitted from the 2025 SPM Academic Excellence Residential Programme organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in collaboration with the school.
The three-day, two-night programme, held at UNIMAS with support from the DUN Pantai Damai Office, Kolej Cempaka and the Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre (PITAS), was aimed at boosting students’ performance in both core and elective subjects.

It focused on targeted teaching strategies while helping participants identify their strengths and weaknesses in a conducive campus environment.
Among the expert educators involved were Ustaz Liza Narawi, Azizah Farizah Hussain, Mohd Rifky Affendi, Latip Acai and Christina Tan, who delivered structured learning guides, study techniques and systematic modules.
Mental health and motivational support were provided by trained counsellor and mental health specialist, Lawrence Sengkuai.
The closing ceremony was officiated by UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, and attended by Faculty of Education, Language and Communication (FPBK) Dean, Dr Dilah Tuah, PITAS Director, Mohamad Zaky Gardafi Ibrahim, and SMKA Matang 2’s Parent-Teacher Association Chairman, Raya Kechil.
In his closing remarks, Ahmad Hata commended the faculty’s commitment towards expanding educational initiatives to address Sarawak’s teacher shortage while reaffirming UNIMAS’ dedication to its motto, ‘Community Driven University for a Sustainable World’.
He also said FPBK serves as UNIMAS’ frontliner in supporting schools in need of assistance.
School orincipal Yazid Rajali said SMKA Matang 2 was determined to raise the number of students attaining straight As this year, in line with its “ACE-A” mission for academic excellence, backed by support from institutions such as UNIMAS.
Chief facilitator Damien Schubert, a Mass Communication student at FPBK, said the programme had left a lasting impression on him, and expressed hope that the students would fully utilise the knowledge gained to excel in both their mock and final SPM examinations.
