KUCHING: A petrol station construction mapping engagement session was held at the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sarawak today to accelerate and streamline the process of building petrol stations in the state.

This initiative is in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform Programme (RKB) to reduce regulatory hurdles, encourage investment, and boost overall productivity.

MPC deputy director-general Dr Mohammad Norjayadi Tamam said that a more efficient and investor-friendly process would improve fuel accessibility, particularly in rural areas, while also creating job opportunities and stimulating local economic growth.

“Petrol station construction is an important component in Sarawak’s energy supply and trade chain.

“These improvements will strengthen a transparent and competitive investment environment,” he said.

For the record, the two-day engagement features sharing sessions and presentations from technical experts and oil operators.

It identifies overlapping or irrelevant procedures, coordinates workflows between agencies, and outlines high-impact improvements to speed up the approval process for petrol station construction.

Through active participation from various stakeholders, MPC expects the outcomes of this session to serve as a strong foundation for reforming petrol station approval processes in Sarawak, making them more efficient, investor-friendly, and competitive.

“Enhancing approval process efficiency is expected to yield various benefits, including expediting energy infrastructure development, reducing costs and waiting times for investors, and expanding fuel network coverage to strategic areas that support industry, tourism, and local communities.

“The improvements from this petrol station mapping project will also serve as a reference for streamlining other development permits in Sarawak,” said MPC in the statement.

This effort has the potential to attract more domestic and international investments to Sarawak, as stable energy supply is a key factor in investment decisions.

“It is hoped that this initiative will boost investor confidence and support the goal of positioning Malaysia among the 12 most competitive countries by 2030,” it said.
