KUCHING: The Sarawak Energy Transition Policy (SET-P) will position Sarawak at the forefront of Malaysia’s energy transition while contributing to global decarbonisation goals.
Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the newly launched policy complements the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint (SSB) 2030 and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap (SHER), forming a strategic framework under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030.
He said the Sarawak Civil Service is committed to delivering tangible results by strengthening governance, streamlining regulations, and fostering inter-agency collaboration.
“We will also continue to embrace digital transformation to ensure progress benefits every Sarawakian, from our rural heartlands to our urban centres.
“I urge all members of the Sarawak Civil Service to remain proactive in engaging relevant stakeholders and to continuously challenge conventional approaches,” he said during the Public-Industry Engagement Day hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (Aug 11).
In a statement, MEESty said the event brought together over 500 participants from government, industry, academia, and civil society to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and align efforts for a greener energy future.
Launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the SET-P provides a strategic, unified roadmap to transform Sarawak’s energy landscape.
It is anchored on seven energy pillars: Renewable Energy, Natural Gas, Energy Efficiency, Low-Carbon Mobility, Clean Hydrogen, Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), and Alternative Energy.
“The policy envisions a resilient, inclusive energy future that addresses the energy trilemma of security, affordability, and sustainability.
“Together, SET-P, SHER, and SSB 2030 form a coordinated policy ecosystem to drive Sarawak’s transformation into a regional low-carbon energy hub,” the statement added.
