DEBAK: The implementation of Phase 2 of the Debak District Sports Complex project, costing RM14 million, will begin soon.
Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (Community Wellbeing Development) Datuk Razi Sitam said Phase 2 will involve the construction of a grandstand with a capacity of 800 to 1,000 spectators, an indoor stadium, a new road encircling the stadium, as well as facility components in line with specifications set by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).
Razi, who is Saribas assemblyman, also proposed planting higher-quality grass to upgrade the existing field in order to improve game standards.
“Although the first phase of the project has been completed, we have opened the stadium for public use free of charge, with maintenance costs covered by the Saribas constituency service centre.
“Once completed, the sports complex will be fully handed over to SSC,” he said during a site visit to the project recently.
Representatives from MYSED, SSC, the project consultants, and the Land and Survey Department were also present to identify an additional site of about 10 acres.
This expansion will bring the total size of the sports complex to nearly 20 acres.
Razi also expressed hope that the land acquisition process could be expedited so that the project tender could be opened by the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year.
