KUCHING: A total of 10,000 people will be participating in the upcoming Mayor Walk 2025, slated to be held on Aug 17 at 6am, at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Boulevard.
The walk, which has been in its inception since 2017, has grown into one of Kuching South’s most recognised events promoting health, unity and a love for the outdoors.
MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the initiative is part of the council’s Youth, Culture and Sports Programme, and continues to reflects its mission to foster healthy lifestyle, encourage public participation and build a stronger community.
“At MBKS, we believe a healthy community is the foundation of a thriving city. The Mayor Walk encourages people to come together, young and old, families and friends, to walk side by side in a spirit of togetherness.
“In doing so, we reinforce the social bonds that makes Kuching South a caring, safe and inclusive city.”
Wee said this during the press conference on the upcoming event on Tuesday (Aug 12).
He added that this year, the walk also reinforces its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
“These goals guide us in creating impactful and sustainable programmes that promote balance, awareness and connection with nature.
“We are especially proud that this event is intergenerational. It’s common to see three generations walking together, sharing laughs, conversations, and creating memories.
“More than just physical activity, the Mayor Walk is also an informal learning platform where children experience and appreciate our local environment, fostering values of conservation and outdoor living.”
Participants are reminded to bring the iPeople registration QR Code to collect their T-shirt on Friday (Aug 15) from 9am to 4pm, and on Saturday (Aug 16) from 9am to 1pm.
