BINTULU: An early morning fire damaged the rear section of a lorry carrying metal cargo along the Pan Borneo Highway near SK Sungai Anak Selangau, today.
The incident was reported at 5.40 am, prompting the Tatau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Tatau) to dispatch a team of six firefighters to the scene, located about 26 kilometres away.
The crew arrived at 6.06 am and brought the blaze under control within nine minutes. Operations concluded at 6.35 am.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre,no injuries were reported.
About 40 per cent of the lorry’s rear was damaged in the fire, which is believed to have originated from its brake and tyre assembly.
The driver and his assistant made initial attempts to extinguish the flames using two fire extinguishers but were unable to prevent the fire from spreading.
Firefighters later deployed a single hose line to douse the fire completely.
