KUCHING: More than 8,000 participants have joined hands and footsteps in the Mayor’s Walk 2025, promoting health and inclusivity across the city.
The event, which began at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Foyer early this morning (Aug 17), once again proved to be more than just a fitness activity, it was a celebration of Kuching’s community spirit.
“Just look around you. So many happy faces, families, and friends walking together.

“This is what the Mayor’s Walk is all about, not just fitness, but community-building,” said MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng in his address.
Since its launch in 2017, the Mayor’s Walk has become a signature annual programme by MBKS to encourage active living while fostering unity among residents.
“When we walk side by side, we are showing what Kuching really is — one big family. Young or old, big or small, everyone belongs here. And that is the MBKS spirit: No One is Left Behind,” Wee added.
The mayor also reminded participants to count not only their steps but also the smiles, friendships, and memories created along the way, saying that every stride contributes to building “a healthier, happier, and more united Kuching.”
“Let’s keep walking, keep smiling, and keep building our city of community and care,” he added.
Also present to flag off the walk were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and deputy mayor Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili.
