SIBU: The Sarawak government has approved RM120,000 for the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to upgrade the pontoon and jetty at Rumah Samat Bungkong, Sungai Lengan, here.
Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said the project is crucial to provide residents with safer and more comfortable facilities, particularly for daily river transport users and those involved in fishing activities.
“The old jetty is worn out and no longer meets current needs. With growing population and economic activities, this upgrade is urgent,” he said following a site visit by the Sibu Division Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID), the implementing agency, at Rumah Samat Bungkong recently.
He added that the new structure will be stronger, user-friendly, and suitable for a variety of purposes.
“This project reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing safety and well-being in rural areas. The Sibu Irrigation and Drainage Department will oversee the work,” Safiee said.
He also urged the community to cooperate fully to ensure the project is completed on schedule and provides immediate benefits to residents.
