SELANGAU: Over 250 students and parents attended the Selangau District Career Day and Education Expo 2025 at SMK Ulu Balingian, an initiative designed to bring education and career opportunities closer to rural youth.

Tamin Assemblyman, Christopher Gira Sambang, who officiated the event on Saturday, said the programme gives students in remote areas direct access to education and career pathways that may otherwise be difficult to reach.

“This programme allows school leavers to meet representatives, receive career guidance, and even register on the spot for further studies or training opportunities,” he said.

He praised Yayasan Sarawak and the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development for jointly organising the event, noting that such efforts encourage students to aim for brighter futures.

Gira also reminded parents of their key role in supporting and motivating their children, emphasising that student achievements benefit both families and the wider community.

The expo featured counselling services, guidance sessions, and booths from educational institutions and skills providers, serving as a one-stop platform for students to explore opportunities and make informed decisions about their future.

“This is about ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of where they live. Rural youth deserve the same access and exposure as their urban counterparts,” he added.
