KUCHING: It was an evening of colours and camaraderie at the Sarawak Gerontology and Geriatrics Society (SGGS) Sarong Night held here last night.
The society’s annual event drew about 100 SGGS members and friends, all dressed in their finest attire for an evening of performances, karaoke and lucky draws.
Also joining the event were Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister, who is also SGGS patron, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, and her husband, Datuk Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah.
Adding a special touch to the evening was a surprise birthday celebration for Adi, who turned 74 on the very same day.
The highlight of the programme was the much-anticipated Sarong Night King and Sarong Night Queen contests.
Contestants were required to do a catwalk and give a speech on why they should be picked to win the titles before a panel of three judges.
In the men’s category, group agency director of an insurance company, Jesse Ling, took the coveted title of Sarong Night King, while senior government officer, Ngu Tai Kong, and retiree Terence Koh secured second and third place respectively.
For the women, Anita Liaw dazzled her way to victory as Sarong Night Queen, with Pearl Wang finishing as runner-up and Jamilah Razali in third place.
The winners received their prizes from Fatimah, making the evening even more memorable.
