KUCHING: The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the lifeline of Malaysia’s economy and key drivers of innovation, said CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Lee Shin Mei.
She said it is observed that SMEs in Kuching are more than just creating jobs and opportunities, but also playing a role in society.
“We see that SMEs here are also preserving culture, strengthening families and shaping the future of Sarawak and Malaysia,” she said during the opening ceremony of the CTOS SME Biz Day at Imperial Hotel Kuching here today.
Lee further said CTOS’ mission echoed the Ministry of Digital’s drive to accelerate digitalisation, supported by initiatives such as Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Business Digitalisation Initiative (BDI).
“This effort helps SMEs stay competitive and open their businesses to more market opportunities,” she said.
On CTOS’s role, Lee explained that while the company is widely known for providing credit reports, its core work is helping businesses manage and safeguard their finances.
“We provide not just credit insight but tools to monitor and ensure that your company has better cash flow and can actually grow,” she said.
She also highlighted CTOS’ Credit Manager system, which holds a 73 per cent market share in Malaysia.
The tool, she said, allows SMEs to manage finances, evaluate business partners and reduce fraud.
“CTOS is the only credit reporting agency certified under the Geran Digital PMKS Madani (GDPM), making SMEs eligible to access CTOS Credit Manager through matching grants from MDEC, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN Bank) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” she added.
Lee also stressed the importance of training and upskilling for sustainability.
“For this, we offer CreditIQ, a two-day training on credit management that is fully claimable under the HRD Corp fund.
As for the CTOS SME Biz Day, Lee described it as a platform that not only celebrates the resilience of SMEs but also encourages knowledge-sharing, inspiration and networking opportunities.
“As such, let’s make this event the beginning of something remarkable for SMEs in Kuching and beyond,” she said.
