KUCHING: Aidil Sharin Sahak saluted his 10-man Kuching City FC side after their battling 1-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), praising the players’ commitment and intensity despite the numerical disadvantage.
The Malaysian Super League clash at Sarawak State Stadium, Petra Jaya, on Sunday (Aug 24) saw the hosts hold firm against the defending champions for much of the game, only undone by Jairo De Macedo Da Silva’s header in the 60th minute.
“It was a good game and I hope the fans enjoyed the football.

“In the first half we dominated and created chances. But in the second half, the red card made the difference.
“Playing JDT with 11 men is already difficult — with 10, it becomes even harder,” said Aidil in his post-match press conference.
Despite the loss, Aidil was quick to applaud his squad’s attitude and fighting spirit.
“I respect and salute my players. Even with ten men, they gave everything. They didn’t lower their intensity or their standard. That’s why I’m proud,”he said.
The coach also highlighted the progress of his side despite missing out key players including Daniel Amier, Jordan Mintah, Gabriel Nistelrooy and Joao Pedro.
“This gave opportunities to others like Danial Asri and Hazwan Bakri to step in, and they performed well,” he noted.
Aidil singled out Haziq for his standout performance between the posts, but credited the entire defensive unit for making the young goalkeeper shine.
“Yes, Haziq made some excellent saves, but his confidence also grew because of the defenders around him. It shows how the team is progressing together,” he said.
Looking ahead, Aidil urged fans to continue supporting the team.
“Now you can see that the so-called small teams can match the best. That is what football is about — raising the standards of Malaysian football.
“We are a new team with a small budget, but the commitment the boys showed tonight proves we are moving forward.”
JDT’s victory consolidated their position at the top of the table, while Kuching City left the pitch with heads held high, their resilient display earning the respect of both their coach and fans.
This Friday (Aug 29) at 9 pm, Kuching travel to face Negeri Sembilan in an eagerly awaited fixture.
