KUCHING: The launch of AFFIN Group’s (AFFIN) Borneo Credit Card has opened the door for potential collaboration with AirBorneo, a new airline set to expand its network across ASEAN.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said such collaboration would allow customers to use the Borneo Credit Card to purchase AirBorneo flight tickets, making travel more convenient.

“If there is cooperation between AFFIN Bank and AirBorneo, it would mean tickets could be purchased using the Borneo Credit Card. That’s what I meant,” he told the media after officiating AFFIN’s Sarawak Regional Office and Hikmah Exchange branch here today.

Abang Johari said the partnership would also align with AirBorneo’s plan to expand its services to regional destinations including Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Korea and Japan.

“We will grow in stages. We must first have the aircraft in place to begin operations,” he said.

When asked about AFFIN Bank opening branches in ASEAN, he stressed that such a move would be entirely up to the bank.

“If AFFIN is growing stronger, there’s no harm in expanding its business into ASEAN countries. That’s a business decision,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari highlighted AFFIN’s re-entry into the Fortune 500 Southeast Asia Companies list, reaffirming its position and potential across the region.

At the same time, he noted that the launch of the new Borneo Credit Card in East Malaysia offers flexible financial solutions, rewards and promotions that benefit the local community, while reinforcing AFFIN’s commitment to inclusivity.

“I believe AFFIN Bank will continue to move forward together with AirBorneo, especially as AirBorneo prepares to cover the entire ASEAN region,” he said.

He also pointed out that AFFIN continues to set new benchmarks through innovation, including the introduction of the Automated Safe Deposit Box at its Northbank branch — the first of its kind in East Malaysia — providing families and businesses in Sarawak with world-class security solutions.

“These achievements prove that AFFIN is not only strengthening its presence but also contributing to shaping Sarawak’s growth story for the future,” he added.

During the event, AFFIN unveiled the Borneo Credit Card, the first in Malaysia specifically designed to meet the daily needs of communities in Sarawak and Sabah, offering cardholders a wide range of privileges.
