KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuching Waterfront, one of Sarawak’s most iconic landmarks, was showcased as a model of urban placemaking during Placemaker Week ASEAN 2025, held from August 27 to 30 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Civic Hall.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) was invited as a panel speaker at the regional event, represented by Deputy Director (Development and Landscaping Services), Maggie Tomeng.

In her presentation, she shared DBKU’s experience in managing and maintaining the Kuching Waterfront, which has become a focal point for both residents and tourists.

She emphasised that DBKU places strong importance on cleanliness, beauty, and safety to ensure visitors enjoy not only the picturesque riverside views but also the grandeur of Kuching’s landmarks, including the Darul Hana Bridge, the State Legislative Assembly Complex, the Indian Mosque, Pangkalan Sapi, and the Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, home to the tallest flagpole in Southeast Asia.

Additionally, Maggie highlighted DBKU’s ongoing commitment to community engagement.

She said that the council actively organises inclusive programmes involving children, youth, senior citizens, and people with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.

These efforts, she said, are aligned with DBKU’s vision of making Kuching a liveable, inclusive, and dynamic city.
