KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here ordered a man, who went viral on social media for causing a commotion inside a church last March, to sign a six-month good behaviour bond.

Don Anchap, 25, nodded in acknowledgment after the charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code was read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

According to the case facts, the incident occurred at around 6:45 pm on March 8, when churchgoers at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here were disrupted by the accused, who stormed in angrily through the main entrance.

He allegedly played loud music, hurled a liquor bottle, and shouted profanities, leading to a police report being lodged for public safety.

Police later arrested him at the scene for further investigation.

Investigations found that the outburst was linked to his mental health condition, which he had been struggling with since 2022 following the death of his mother from cancer.

At the time, he was believed to have stopped taking his prescribed medication.

To prevent a recurrence, the court ordered Don to sign a six-month good behaviour bond with a surety of RM2,500, to be guaranteed by his father.

Prosecuting officer, Insp. Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, prosecuted the case while Don was unrepresented by counsel.
